I've communicated with people's projected doubles when they were awake and not aware of it. I do not distinguish between someone being projected and not being projected. I believe that by thinking about something other than ourselves, we project unconsciously. For example, right now I'm writing this on the computer and thinking that those involved in this conversation are not in the same general area as I am. I am unwittingly (or wittingly, though not perceptively) projecting myself to where 'you' are, even if it is a nonlocal state, and our projected doubles are interacting. We, (as in you and I) may not consciously participate except for typing into the computer, but our projected doubles are engaged in some sort of 'higher self interaction' right now. Or maybe not now, as time may work differently in the way they interact.
So the thing isn't whether the double is consciously projected, but whether it's communicating in such a way as to 'get to' the physical brain and be perceived in some way.
Back to my answer: I've done it, and they report just 'all of a sudden thinking about me' just for a second, a fleeting thought.
