Hello,

Im new to the forums and had a quick question. I've been reading about OBE's since i was about 13, and now im 23. I've tried several attempts in the past to try to have an OBE. But all the attempts lead to me either falling asleep or not having an OBE. I was recently married and found out that i Talk and act out things in my sleepp almost every night. So i went to a sleep doctor to figure why i was doing this. When a normal person falls asleep the body starts to disconnect from the part of your brain that controls movement, IE; Paralysis. But in my case my body does not, my body continues to fall asleep and keeps that part of my brain active which is why i act out everything thats happening in my sleep.
Hello inous.
Does this happen all the time? Is it a bona fide condition, or something that happens some of the time? I ask because this is something that happens to almost everyone some of the time, in certain times in their life, especially growth spurts. My son does it, my brother used to do it and I occasionally do. If it's a 'sometimes' thing, then don't worry about it.

So my question is, astral projection is mostly achieved thru paralysis of the body, How can I tackle this? Well, by telling you this is not true. OBE is not achieved through sleep paralysis, this is a misconception due to the fact that most people are paralyzed when they project, but paralysis is not a prerequisite to OBE, trance is. What needs to go into a specific wavelength is your brain, not your body. For most people, OBE is achieved through the Theta to Delta transition, regardless of paralysis. If you feel that having your body move is breaking the trance (that is, trance is the required condition for OBE, not paralysis) try projecting from a recliner. That way you will be less prone to 'sitting up' or moving your arms, and if you use an exit technique that doesn't involve moving your arms or feet you'll be able to.
Yes, I realize that most OBE communities call the projection state 'sleep paralysis', but this is not true- what you need to project is deep trance- sleep paralysis is a condition that, though is possible to OBE from, is not optimal for it, for a lot of other reasons.

well if my body cant achieve paralysis will i ever be able to have an astral projection? I figure if i cant have an OBE from waking to sleeping then maybe i can use the dreaming supplement called "Brilliant Dreams" which will help me become a lucid dreamer and have an OBE from a lucid dream. what do you think? First of all, I can't suggest supplements, for a few reasons, but the best thing I can tell you is that if you use artificial means to achieve trance you are defeating the purpose of learning to control the process (because you are depending on an artificial means of achieving it).
If you feel you need help to get to trance (which I really doubt, if you can go to sleep you can go into trance, it is the same process) then I suggest you try any brainwave entrainment program that teaches you what trance feels like in the hopes you can learn to induce it yourself.
If not, I suggest you adopt meditative practices, such as the practice of "watching yourself go to sleep" and see how far you can go with it.
I'd also recommend trying energy work. It's free (we have tutorials for this in the main site) and will also help you.

Note added: It is a fact that it is much easier to project paralyzed, because of the tendency to break trance when you move- especially if you are starting out. But if you concentrate on the feeling of staying awake and being aware of the changes in the way you think, perceive and hear, you can then use passive means to project, or try phasing. If you fall asleep and dream and moving doesn't wake you from the dream, chances are that you can project for a short amount of time before you do something drastic and wake yourself up.
But the first thing to get rid of is the idea that you can't do it, because you can.
