You confuse trance and sleep paralysis. I don't think sleep paralysis is necessary, and trying to achieve it can be distracting. Trance is simply a feeling of being more and more tuned out of your physical surrounding, and shows a bit differently for everyone and every time.
I had long trance sessions, but I realised that trance can be happened rather quickly and naturally when you have less expectations about trance. Relax, man! Expectations kill relaxation, without relaxation no trance. Try not to do it by the book. Explore what *actually* happens when you close your eyes, when you relax, what happens?
Less expectations, easier trance. Robert repeated over and over that a varying set of conditions can indicate trance, and almost any of them could be missing. Recognise the trance in whatever form it comes.
