The other night I was drifting off to sleep and I had felt the tingly feeling of electricity before I woke up.. I decided to go back to sleep and as I was falling asleep I tried to envision things in the blackness of my closed eyes. I started to see unexplainable objects and automatically started counting down in my head, "3, 2, 1, go" --- that's when I felt as if I did the "rolling out" method. Unfortunately, I got stuck.

Are visualizations a key part in getting a successful OBE?
Depends- I believe when you actively create a visualization what you are doing is creating a mental landscape (or situation) instead of becoming aware of optimal projection state. That is why most seasoned projectors favor 'mind emptying' or 'noticing' (I prefer the second) when they become aware they're ready.
I think visualization (especially if you're a visual learner) is very valuable to develop clairvoyance, and is helpful in awareness training for OBE too, but not done when trying to have an OBE. Like the verbal mind chatter, it can overlay the field of vision that may be opening in front of your eyes and actually make you miss your 'window'.
In other words, I think visualization and some types of energy work are best done at another part of the day, but not at the time you want to project.

I'd like some advice on how to get one - I feel as if I'm halfway there!
If you describe your routine, and whatever happens when you do it, and what happens when you get stuck I'll be happy to give some advice, if you want it.
