The speech center in the brain is there from birth. Babies are born with a language (I'm hungry, I'm uncomfortable, I'm happy, etc.) We're hardwired to be verbal, so I wouldn't count on us stopping to use 'lamo' words.
The truth is that language evolves with us, and today's 'lame-o' words replace yesterday's 'lame-o' words. So being built like we are, I wouldn't count on it.
Maybe we can start reading again so that most people learn to use more than one word for each meaning. Wouldn't that be refreshing? A tiny bit less lame. Maybe even more interesting.
