One of my children is autistic. She had pretty much no speech at all until she was three and a half (maybe a handful of words, but she didn't use them consistently). She couldn't understand what we said to her, and we frequently didn't understand what she was trying to say, when she bothered to attempt communication at all.

Interestingly, though, it is with this child (out of four) that I have the strongest psychic bond. I won't go into all of it because it's long and not really on topic for this thread, but from the time she was conceived I've been able to understand her in a way that nobody else can. I don't think it's just "mother's instinct" because I don't have it with my other children, even the ones that are known to be psychic (my eldest) or who are showing signs of clairvoyance (my youngest). It's only the non-verbal child with whom I have this non-verbal connection.

Which isn't to say this connection made her life any easier, poor kid, but I do think it's significant that we have it. It's almost like her spirit knew she was going to have these problems and sought me out right away and set up this communication channel.

We still have it, although she is verbal now (she can tell you a story, ask questions, demand to be taken to McDonald's, complain about her sister, talk to the cat, tell lies, sing songs, all kinds of wonderful things).

I don't know if this has any bearing on anyone's question, but it seemed like something to share, anyway. Take it for what it's worth.
