I think when you hear something in human language telepathicly it is actually a translation of the 'alpha' language which I think is what makes the jump. Images and emotion are examples of basic 'alpha' language that can be sent.
Actually, that's my experience, as well. I've been psychic to some extent all of my life, mostly clairsentient, but I've been known to have clairaudient experiences. When I "pass on a message" or indicate something that I've "been told", I always have to put it into my own words because there are almost never real words. The messages (visions, whatever) come in symbolic language almost always. They come in metaphors, parables, etc. Only on a couple of very rare occasions have I received a message that was clearly verbal, and those messages are invariably very short and loaded with multiple meaning on multiple levels, as if the words were chosen specifically to convey as much meaning as possible in the most concise way.

Note that I normally don't get that kind of communication with my daughter. Our non-verbal communication is very deep and almost instantaneous, and I "just know". The only time I can recall receiving psychic communication from her that I interpreted verbally was in the very, very early stages of labour, when I knew, very clearly, "Okay. I'm coming now."
