The ones that send you to sleep can be quite useful when you use Robert's trick with holding the lower arm up. The upper arm is resting on the bed, and the lower arm is vertical. This is easy to hold, but as soon you drift to sleep your muscles relax and your arm drops.

Training this should help reaching and holding deeper states of trance without falling asleep as you can confidently inch closer to sleep without just passing out and taking a nap.
