Displacement on the swings
Last night I was out on a walk and swinging at the park. I'd been keeping my eyes closed for a while and was pretty lost in thought. When I subconsciously checked back with a background, low-level 'where am I again?', I had an image of someplace else-- much smaller, more backyard-like-- generic and mundane, just a configuration of common elements like bushes and fences and whatnot that I don't happen to be familiar with as a place. But it was persistent... Whenever I tried to picture what was around me, I kept getting that imaginary place instead of what was actually there, though of course I still knew what it was really like. I've had moments similar to that where I kind of lose myself and have to make more of an effort to remember where I am-- but not where I then have a consistent feeling of being someplace else, somewhere specific but wrong. I thought it was kinda interesting-- is this something it would be worthwhile (or possible) to encourage?
