This sounds to me like separating (full/part of) your awareness from your physical body. It is the basis of phasing (and my technique). With some practice similar to NEW, you move the location of your perception to visit distant places. Or on a lighter note have some really funky experiences trying to move your physical body from this 'odd' perspective (be careful as falling still hurts).
