I've never consciously projected even though I do remember spontaneously being projected both which lasted maybe 5 seconds. But now I'm actually trying to learn this and the first time I felt the vibrations and everything was going well I realized there is always a "Mysterious Character" standing as if its waiting for me to project. How do I know?

First attempt of projecting, I remember getting sight before actually feeling the exit sensation and I realized there was someone standing before me by my door if my legs were 6 o clock and my head was 12 o clock, it was always at my 1 o clock just standing there waiting. This is during the night so I can't see how the character looks but the first time I thought it was my mother for some reason. Anyway the exit sensations caused me to abort the projection, as I found out later it was my heart center that was doing all that, I happened to stop because I have a thing for always wondering if I'm doing stuff right or wrong, in this case I thought I was doing it wrong.

Second attempt of projecting was today, I had just woken back up and I wanted to see if I could project, I then felt like trying to induce trance. At some point I kind of think that my projected double is being generated, but I slip into a dream. I'm assuming I woke back up and started flicking in and out of dream, physical and then finally real time zone projected double.

The reason I say this is because right when I flick out the dream I find myself in my bed exactly how it is and I see the mysterious character standing there eating a chicken and I think it's my mother so I ask "Is there any more food? and the character responds in a dark, ogre type of voice saying "Why?"

This woke me up because I thought I was actually awake at that point, and I was trying to think back and I remember the dream and then instantly back in bed so I thought I was awake. I then remembered the first attempt I had seen the same image but I didn't think of it as anything even though I know I say the exact same character.

Question - What could it be? and is he sitting there waiting for me to project?
