It can be "psychic crossroad".

If I appear in dark area in a dream I am mostly in trance state. I must do something and go to AP, LD, pure trance or wake up. Sometimes there is something like menu of the dreams.(with triangle or similar symbols)

It depends only on my thoughts, what happen in this situation.
