If you start the rope technique you can't stop. No matter what happens around you, what the guy says, etc. You need to do the rope technique whether you think you're doing it right or not- it will 'become' more 'real' as you do it. But you can't stop. You should do it for a minimum of 15 minutes (which may be a lot) before you give up. If you have trouble remembering what a rope feels like when you go up it, get one and practice until you have memorized how it feels, and can recall the sensation. Do it until you know what it is to do it in your head. And please don't try to visualize it- that defeats the purpose.
If you already think rope is too hard and stop doing it too early, you are actually programming yourself to 'not exit' with rope. So try a different exit technique for starters, until you feel secure with it.
Remember that the CD is for practice, to teach you a projection sequence so you can learn to do it for yourself. You can and should practice the sequence on your own, and you can then use the exit technique when you're ready. Remember the CD is a training tool.
