I immediately thought of how Persephone ate of the pomegranate seeds in the land of the Dead. Wasn't sure how to take it, or what it might mean. From what angle to look at that from. Good or bad?

But then, with a little digging, I found it gets much better.

"The name pomegranate means 'to give birth' and with its red juice and seeds was a prime symbol of uterine fertility. Therefore pomegranates were eaten by souls in the underworld to bring about rebirth." I will take this as a sign that my apple burial thing accomplished what I was hoping for. I don't want to run out ahead of myself though. I don't know for sure. But it looks like a positive sign.
