Have you tried a recliner? It's comfy enough to get you relaxed enough, there is no possibility of you 'falling sideways' and getting jolted, and when you start getting vibes you can just breathe through them, something you have to train yourself to do.
If you don't like the rope technique, you can do other things, like concentrate on whatever visuals you may be getting (I don't advocate using your imagination, because that's the easiest way to fall asleep).
Time your breathing with the vibrations, as if they were waves going over your body and you're going to 'surf them', and do this mentally, without moving your body.
If you can move when the vibes happen, you're not in deep enough.
