is it something like "feeling" the room with your mobile body awareness? Yes, but 'on steroids'.

In other words, when you're projected, you also 'feel' the 'space' in-between. Sort of a difference between the texture/density of matter and the texture/density of air. Kind of hard to describe, but in essence yes.
