I don't think so. What you're describing is what I get a lot on and around the full moon- almost like 'fuzzy astral sight' where it's like seeing through frosted glass, or like looking at a 3-D representation of an infrared image, but not in green tones- (I'm not really helpful, am I?)
This is more like that but completely tactile- another way of describing it would be imagine a room is filled with water (or a very thick fog) and you can perceive the changes in density of the objects vs. the fog/water, and you can convert it into a sort of 3-D image that you traverse through, but you feel it as you go, instead of seeing it.
In retrospect it may be the same effect, but perceived differently.
