looking for some opinions on spirit guides and how real they are, or maybe its just the subconscious communicating with us through these helpers. the mind is very powerful, and when you go out seeking 'guides' or Jesus, then you will see what your intention is.

I've been reading up on shamanism and their practice of journeying to the lower worlds to find a power animal or spirit helper. Hank Wessleman also talks about journeying to the upper worlds to get a spirit teacher. I don't know about all this though, especially when you take into account how complex the subconscious mind is, and how vivid some dreams can be. who's to say what is real? I know some on here take guides to be very real, but how do you know?
