Wow, what a great thread! I pretty much agree with what y'all are saying, but want to add another alternative:
ok, well by your logic... i go to sleep at night and dream really weird dreams, dreams that "I" could normally not even come close to imagining, does that mean someone else is making up the dreams? It is possible that the information you are receiving is coming from the (pick your favorite term): collective consciousness, collective unconscious, superconscious mind, ether, akashic records, etc. and then your subconscious does the trick of objectifying it for you and assigning a part of your consciousness to deliver it to you in the form of guides.
Either way, I'm happy with any of the alternatives.
