A thought form is a being (astral/energetic) that a human creates. It can be done on purpose with emotion, or by accident: For example, (Anger): Someone is angry at someone else and wishes something bad happened to them, and 'sends' them something. Fear: I'm walking in the dark, and I see a shadow. It's actually nothing, but my fear gives it form, and seeing it makes me more afraid- I give it more thought, now I'm feeding it, and giving it more emotion. You get the picture.
A thoughtform never becomes fully sentient, is completely dependent on the relationship of the sender/receiver. It can change form, or dissappear completely after it stops receiving emotional charge. The problem is that if someone sends a thoughtform on purpose, and the receiver continually reacts, and the original issue between both people isn't resolved, the thoughtform may develop a rudimentary sentience.
I, however, don't think that was what you experienced. (JMO)
