Hi Journ.

I have had something like that, at times, and sometimes I can somehow get my eyes to refocus so that I see all these star like points of light swirling about, something like birds circling on a windy day... and they do fade in and fade out as well.

Here are my observations:

They do not seem subject to my will; If I try to "mentally"affect them in any way, it does not change their motion, density or brightness.

Being in bright sunlight vastly increases the brightness of the effect, when it occurs. In dimmer light, it tends to occur as "tiny blobs of clearness"

It has happened at times of sudden low blood pressure (geting up too quickly etc)

They seem to be, (other than the presence of sunlight intensifying them) totally independent of the physical world.. ie, they don't cling to things, are not more dense near certain objects, etc.

Each eye offers independent data: that is, the sparkles are different for each eye.... I cannot see a sparkle with both eyes and get a good solid 3-D reading on them.

That last suggests to me that the more likely explanation is that it is some kind of "noise" in my visual processing system... an irritation of the optic nerve, for example. But that is all that I can say. It has been an on and off perception that I have had for some 30+ years now that I have had this perception on and off, and in all those years, nothing has really changed, it has not become more pronounced, nor does it seem to correlate with the occurence of any other event.

Best wishes
HS
