Maybe they weren't holding you down, they were 'escorting' you back?
I for one think I'm usually accompanied when I project but rarely notice until later on when I 'look' besides me or become more conscious of my immediate surroundings (as opposed to looking around 'out there'). I think we all have guides but not always see them. Just a thought, since you didn't feel threatened by them.
