Once during an OBE (or it could have been a lucid dream) I floated out of my window and found myself surrounded by glowing orbs. The atmosphere resembled water and the orbs seemed to drift passively on subtle currents, moving on their own as well but not too much. As I made my way through them they neither reacted nor got in my way. I just thought that was fascinating, didn't really think I'd see them again.
I've encountered them the second time in what I think was a lucid dream. Every now and then it just so happens that the dream ends, but I remain lucid and asleep. At times like this I find myself in nothingness, it doesn't last long, but it's really boring. So, once in this state I wondered "What if I go up?" I tried to move up to where I thought "up" would be and once again found myself moving through these lights. I moved through them at a much greater speed, so they appeared distorted. And then I thought, "Hey, so the glowy thingies aren't a one-time occurence!"

Can anyone tell me what they are?
