Palehorse, this sounds to me like you were having an OBE. While in the dream state, we visit places and learn. When it is that vivid, it seems that you downloaded better than normal. Look at some of the stuff Aunt Clair writes about regarding learning in the astral. I'm more convinced than ever that we are in the astral during dreams. It doesn't have to make sense. Your perceptions can become mixed up due to astral reality fluctuations and the state of mind you've been in recently.

I've been doing some reading by people who have done "partnered exploration". They make an agreement to meet somewhere in the astral, and later compare notes. It's nothing short of amazing. They can have the same experience, but interpret it differently. One may describe a library where you can look at someone's experiences. The other may describe a more technical area that has something similar to computers. Even though they experience the place differently (usually according to their personal earthly experiences and likes), they saw the same other person's experience played out before them. One viewing it in a book, the other, viewing it via a computer.
