Very interesting post Aunt Clair. Lots of new info to ponder...
Contemplating this question of yours , I have tried to move my third eye sight without moving my physical eyes and I am not able to do that . It is like one eye moving in sympathy with the other they seem to work in tandem Did you try this with your eyes open or closed. The only way I can move the eye independantly is if I focus my physical eyes on something stationary. This is interesting as you can really isolate the feeling of movement.
Curiously there is a sensation like the muscles one feels while turning the eyes . That is a very good way of describing it.
If you close your eyes and turn the clairvoyant sight from right to left and back again you do get a sensation that an eye is moving but is it because the physical eyes are moving ? I have tried to concentrate and not move my physical eyes . I have found that if I am not using the mask area then the physical eyes do not need to move . I think if you try that with your eyes open as I mentioned above, you'll see that the sensation is independant of that felt by your physical eyes. Perhaps the sensation is a result of a conditioning of sorts. When your attention is focused (using any eye) on an area that is viewable with physical sight (ie. in front of you), your brain is used to experiencing these sensations. Focusing your 3rd eye on these areas may simply trigger the same sensations to be felt. When you focus on other areas that cannot be focused upon with physical sight, your brain has no prior experience with which to link this act, and therefor has no conditioned response to invoke?
I recommend trying to see with your hand itself Have just tried this and my observations seem in line with yours, but at a much weaker level (this is my first attempt at clairvoyance). When my hand is in front I can "see" a faint white glow, but I get basically nothing anywhere else. Perhaps a faint perception on top, but could just be my mind guessing where my hand should be.
Thanks very much for the insights! I have something new to play with!
