All of this smells so much of BS.

Even if proven innocent, he'll be stuck in the US till after the Socialist primary in France.

BTW, it's fairly common in France to have a major opponent charged 18-24 months before a presidential election. It happened to Sarkozy, but Villepin/Chirac failed miserably and now Villepin is facing charges himself.
