Thanks for the reply CFTraveler. That may explain why the feelings of curiosity and "thirst" (for lack of a better description) I previously had when reading on the subject have been replaced, to a certain extent, with feelings of aprehension and anxiety.
I'll take your advice and read up on the defense methods you mentioned. I have also recently made a point of asking for help and guidance regularly (well, semi-...) so hopefully that will help.
It seems that being ignorant of the negative aspects of OBEs could be an advantage, at least for a short time while starting out?
