I have always been the vivid lucid dreaming type, and I often
have all kinds of hypnopompic imagery, both visual and
auditory (but not both at once) while slowly waking up from
dreams. The sounds are usually in the form of voices, and
sometimes I do even hear my name. I always like to wake up
slowly from dreams so I can try to re-enter them, and it's those
moments when I'm mostly awake, but still close enough to
go right back into the dream when I get the most of this. Usually
it sounds like unclear voices laughing and talking in the next
room. I usually can't make out what they're saying, but from
time to time it will be clear enough that they will seem to be
talking about me in a sort of "he'll be waking up in a few
moments" kind of way. Only in rare cases do they seem to
be actually talknig directly to me. The most complex case
of this was about a year ago when it sounded like a phone ringing
twice (the old bell kind, not one I actually have), and then after
two rings, a voice I did not recognize seemed to say "hi, _____
(my name), isn't it about time to wake up?" The "time to
wake up" theme is there more often than not.

I've never had the experience of hearing my name called when
I was actually awake. With me, it's only a part of the
hypnopompic hallucinations that I very often get as I'm
waking up slowly from a lucid dream.
