Thank you both for the information. I think I was pressing against this as a kid. I'm not sure--it is difficult to know what was real and what was just my hyperdeveloped imagination until I begin re-experiencing these things as an adult.

I used to regularly 'exit' my body and go snooping around elsewhere in my mind's eye while I was still sitting in school with my eyes open, or while reading. Basically in any position where I was physically required to hold still and look awake but not required to perform any interaction.

A coping mechanism, sadly. But it may turn out to be a valuable skill! I am still able to do this but cannot see as vividly as I used to. It was like I was home but 'not home'.
