In my experience, greater energy skills do not increase risk of NEG attacks. Often it feels this way to newbies as they become more aware, they suddenly recognize the attacks that were always there. Obviously, learning some basic defense skills if a good idea (shielding especially) as many NEGs prefer easy targets. The only exception to this is if you specifically contact or conjure spirits (mediumship, spiritualism, séances, ouija boards, etc). These will, as designed, bring in more entities and inexperienced practitioners can not always control who is contacted.
