Thats what I find so fasinating, you can pass through solid brickwork with little or no problem but passing through a few feet of earth greatly slows you down. Also you experiense sights, sounds, and smells ect.. associated with each material. I find that even thrusting my hand through a wall I see and feel its contents. But a hand (or more) thrust into open ground all I experiense is a sluggish, thick feeling. Surely a 6 inches of masonary is denser than the same volume of compacted earth, and why dont i experiense the taste of mud or something. Although more experimentation is required I'll admit.
