Interesting question. When I stare at an object for a long period of time, I see what I consider an afterimage or retinal fatigue. I see this as an unwavering color hovering next to or superimposed over the object. When I see an aura, I see dancing flames of color around the object. I believe this is what the alchemists meant by their "secret fire" since it surrounds everything by we rarely see it. When I look at people, I often see a "mist" close to their body. It looks like a fog and is the first thing to catch my eye. Next, I will see a clear flame next to their skin and then colors will appear beyond the clear flame. These colors cannot be afterimages because they are not the lime-green contrasting color for pink skin. For example, my hands are often bluish-purple. -Matthew
