My best OBEs happen while sitting. I do it in a very comfortable recliner, in the morning (very early- 4 or 5am). I'm not sure why, but I think that the different position (instead of completely lying down) either keeps you closer to consciousness, or does something to the balance centers making it easier to get to a trance state. (It's easier to imagine you're rocking, for example, when reclined, than lying down (for me, that is.) Doing it
