Just relaxing the mind won't get you into trance. You might near sleep, occasionally remaining aware enough to experience trance, but this can be pretty hit and miss.
When I first set out to produce trance I turned to hypnosis, and this helped a lot. I now have a system of counting to 10, each step consisting of actions which produce a deeper level of trance. At 10, I'm in a light/medium trance, and from there I can use other techniques to deepen it. Counting to ten is a trigger for a learnt response developed over years of enforcement (it's based upon Monroe’s induction to F10).
