I think my understanding on that somewhat diverges, a large amount of sexual activity can stir up the same amount of sexual activity (more?) in dreams than abstaining.

I think it is spot on that energy has intrinsic ties with sex.
Energy is a regulator to many aspects of existence, including sexual experience.
Although it might be probable to achieve out-of-body exit thru raising sexual energy as the energy grid will be charged for a short time after to achieve projection.
However after peaking the energy tends to drop, meaning the quality of astral experiences or even success of later projection might be limited for someone who has not yet mastered projection.

Nonetheless channeling energies is useful.
Channeling love energy can be utilized past basic desire principals -that is raising true soul energy and increasing consciousness/relaxation to make projection into other realms probable.
There is a clear distinction between raising energy driven desire and channeling love in the context of sexual experience, and the effects of each are substantial to the ends which is being attained.
Sex can be a v. spiritual act, or not such.
