I wouldn't recommend pain pills for OB, because if they make you go in too deep you won't remember your trips.
Being a woman of still reproductive age, I take pain pills once a month- you can bet that's the one week I have no projections (that I remember). Of course, everyone's different, and we all have different reactions to medications, but in my case pain killers also block recall. Also, I'm allergic to valium- but the way I found out is that I would have LSD-like dreams while on it (years ago for a car accident) and later I began to lose time. When I told the DR. he told me I was mildly allergic, took me off of it and all the symptoms went away. So sometimes allergic symptoms can be of the mind-altering type.

Curious about the ear thing- ever since I was little I can move the part of the (inner) ear that connects to the throat, and I also can produce the humming/whooshing noise you described. I can also make clicking noises at will. I have found out not everyone can do this (in fact, you are the first that I have heard about other than me.) When I asked the doctor about this (years ago) he looked at me like I was nuts, so I let it go. Do we have some kind of vestigial muscle that I've never heard about? Have you asked anyone about this? Just curious.
