It could be OBE but my guess would probably be an 'astral' pre OB experience. Most of the stuff sound like hypnagogia and astral noise, and in my experience the sound effects go away when I'm completely out. (not the visuals, though). The only thing I can say is when I'm ready to OB these effects get really strong- as if my batteries are getting ready to discharge.
