Let me explain how I do it and why: If I attempt to OB I do it at 5am. I naturally get up at that time anyway, so I sit back on a recliner and either attempt it- I don't have to work to relax and I'm already in the hypnagogic state-or go to sleep. I do energy work (sponging, chakra work) around 2 in the afternoon- and at night some more sponging and energy raising, and meditation. The brunt of the energy work is in the afternoon, and relaxation/meditation in the evening.
The reason for this, is that if I did the energy work in the evening, it would take me too long to go to sleep, and when I finally relaxed I would probably pass out. Since it doesn't really take a lot of time to do energy work, doing it in the afternoon gets all the energy flowing, but not at night. At night a little stimulation will 'wake up the energy body' so when I awake in the AM it's 'ready to go.' Also, if you've never had a projection before, it's less scary in the AM- some people get scared with the astral noises, the vibs, and then finding themselves floating around in the twilight-so in the AM it can be less scary, and if you find yourself in a 'situation' you know the sun will come up- and it's spectacular when it does when you're out.
