Yes, that is the truth. And it was with a 60% discount for residents. Beside that I have also paid US$ 3000 for the registration. The car is a 2005 Toyota 4Runner.
Unfortunately your car is over 5 years old.
One more thing, the car has to be on your name least a year and you need to have at least a "pending" residency status. That means you turned in all your documents to the immigration and they gave you a receipt with a bunch of stamps on it and this has to be presented at the custom dept./Aduanas.
I was told, if you are a returning dominican citizen you will not have to pay your taxes, but the registration has to be paid.
