Garmin is the most popular GPS used the world over. All waypoints are created and used in a format called WGS84. It is compatible with Google and other mapping programs like Fugawi, etc. The Garmin Mapsource program is the most user friendly, even more so than Lowarance and Macgallen etc.

I have been using GPS since 2000 and have had a few. In fact I will be in Santiago next Wednesday and hope to record some tracks and waypoints.

Just my two cents worth.
