The 2nd womens' semifinal at the Australian features world #2 Petra Kvitova, and #4 (and a former champion at the AO), Maria Sharapova. The winner of the match not only gets to the final, she holds on to a chance to be #1 when the new rankings are released on Monday, 1-23.

Career H2H is 2-1 Petra (one of those matches, at Tokyo last fall, was won when Maria retired after rolling her ankle). Maria won their only other hard court match, while Petra has won their only meeting in a Slam (the Wimbledon final in '11)
