The fade in and out reminds me of a song we sang in Cubs - "Hi, ho, anybody home, land or love or money have I none, but I will return again." That's the only lyric, it repeats, but you whisper it and then bring it up, and then take it down to a whisper again and it ends. It's supposed to emulate hearing someone go by you on a boat, down a river. I always had a feeling that's what was happening here - that she was sailing across the Styx, and we just hear a part of the journey - and the echoes sound like the drips echoing in a cave. If you've ever been on one of those underground, cave-river boat tours it's totally like that.

HEIGH-HO / ROSE RED [Listen] Heigh-ho, nobody home Meat, nor drink, nor money have I none. Still I will be merry [repeat] Rose, Rose, Rose red, Shall I ever see thee wed? I will marry at thy will, sire At thy will [repeat] Ding ding ding dong Wedding bells on an April morn' Carve your name on a moss covered stone On a moss covered stone [repeat] Ding ding ding dong Funeral bells on a September morn' Rose oh rose is dead and gone, sire Dead and gone [repeat]

There's the song - it's a traditional song with hundreds of verses, but that's the verse we used to sing anyway.
