That's too bad. I was just listening to a radio talk show that laid out the logical result, since it's dealing with kids.

Since getting too far ahead means a loss, getting too far behind means a win.
Kids will start kicking the ball into their own goal, trying to put the other team up by 6.
The other team will realize what's going on and start doing the same on their end.
In order to prevent that from happening, each team will send their own goalies to the opposing goal to defend against getting too far ahead.
Competition restored.
