As a soccer "outsider" in the States, I'd like to chime in. I really dislike the European tradition for naming soccer teams. It offends my sensibilities as an American sports fan. As was pointed out, this sport isn't "football" here. We don't have Athletic Clubs, we have team nicknames. You aren't going to make Americans like the league by selling it to Europeans.

"Union" isn't bad, though. It's similar enough to the European traditional "United" team name without copying it. Sounds like a soccer team. And, it also puts an American spin on it. Serving as a nickname. Revolutionary imagery will go over well in Philadelphia.

I especially like the "Join or Die" slogan. It's aggressive. Makes me think that I should stop not caring about Major League Soccer now.
The Union was the perfect name, because really is meets both standards as a European name, and as an American Sports team nickname. Love the logo and the Join or Die slogan.
