New U.S. Davis Cup captain Jim Courier has named Andy Roddick, John Isner, and Bob and Mike Bryan as his four-man squad to face Chile. Sam Querrey will also travel with the team to Santiago, but it is undetermined whether he will be named to the final squad. Courier is permitted to make two changes until one hour before the draw ceremony begins on March 3.
While Roddick won Memphis last week, both Querrey and Isner have been in slumps. Querrey has only won three out of his last 12 matches, while Isner fell in the opening rounds of both Memphis and Delray Beach.
However, Chile is without its top player, the injured Fernando Gonzalez and has nominated a weak squad that contains Paul Capdeville, Jorge Aguilar, Nicolas Massu and Guillermo Rivera.
Defending champion Serbia will play at home against India with the squad that won the title in December: Novak Djokovic, Victor Troicki, Janko Tipsarevic and Nenad Zimonjic. India will bring Somdev Devvarman, Rohan Bopanna, Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi.
Spain will travel to Belgium with a strong team, which includes Rafael Nadal, David Ferrer, Fernando Verdasco and Feliciano Lopez. Belgium counters with Xavier Malisse, Olivier Rochus, Steve Darcis and Ruben Bemelmans.
Sweden will host Russia and has nominated the frequently injured and semi-retired former top 10 player Joachim Johansson to play along side Robin Soderling, Robert Lindstedt and Simon Aspelin. Russia is without Nikolay Davydenko and has nominated Teymuraz Gabashvili, Igor Andreev, Igor Kunitsyn and Dmitry Tursunov.
