Australian Open 2012 Play-off – daily update
Day two of the Australian Open Play-off has seen John-Patrick Smith (Kelso, Qld) continue his impressive return to the Australian tennis circuit with a win over No.4 seed Chris Guccione (Greenvale, Vic) 7-5 7-6(3) this morning.

The two players had not faced each other previously but it was Smith who combated the 201 cm Guccione’s monster first serve in impressive fashion. Smith, ranked 441 in the world, said the round of 16 win was one of his most memorable to date. Read more on the match and watch the highlights here.

Top seed Greg Jones (Manly, NSW) coasted into the quarterfinals defeating Gavin Van Peperzeel (Sandstone Point, Qld) in straight sets 6-2 6-3. Read more on the match here.

In other matches No.2 seed Marinko Matosevic (Dandenong, Vic) defeated Sam Groth (Templestowe, Vic) 6-4 7-6 (6), [5] James Duckworth (Gordon, NSW) ousted Luke Saville (Barmera, SA) 6-2 6-2 and unseeded player Dane Propoggia (East Lakes, NSW) upset [6] James Lemke (Camberwell, Vic) 6-4 7-6(4).

In the women’s draw No.5 seed Bojana Bobusic (South Perth, WA) kept her Australian Open wildcard chances alive, cruising to victory over fourth seed Sally Peers (Glen Waverley, Vic) 6-2 6-2 in the second stage of round-robin matches today. Read more on the match here.
