Bartoli out for six weeks after suffering calf tear
January 19, 2011
Marion Bartoli will be off the court for six weeks after suffering a calf tear during her match against Vesna Manasieva in the second round of the Australian Open. Bartoli, who did not drop a game in her opening match, lost 6-3, 3-6, 6-0 after a strong start.
"It felt like an explosion inside my muscle when I pushed off at one point," she said. "After that, it was very complicated because I couldn't use my right leg.
"I can't take a plane now because it's too swollen. I have to stay here for three days."
"The doctors asked me how I had managed to play another hour and a half. But I'm a competitor. I was up a set, it's not easy to give up. It might not have been the best decision to take."
This is from the ticker.
I watched the last two sets of that match and thought it was very strange. I watched all of her first round match and she was in incredible form. She also had very "happy feet," bouncing around constantly between points. This match she was totally still between points. What a bummer for her.
