Miles has won the 2011 US Open women's tournament and now owns the hardware!






Yes, that is the real women's trophy. The USTA held an event in Times Square today to promote tickets going on sale to the general public. Since I happen to be in NY at the moment, couldn't resist showing up for a chance to take a picture with the trophy.

I was hoping they had the men's hardware but alas it was only the ladies trophy. So instead of holding the very same trophy that Rafa held last year, I got to hold the trophy that has been won by Waffles the previous two years.

I assumed it would be a replica but the USTA folks insisted it was the actual trophy and asked that I be very careful with it. A security guard was watching over the hardware the whole time which I suppose confirms the real deal.

The trophy isn't particularly impressive since it doesn't have the names of the winners engraved on it, but still it was an EPIC thrill just holding it!

Glad the USTA is doing such fan friendly things like this.
