Maria Sanchez Lorenzo (not a Russian, though) switched her hand position depending on whether it was a forehand or a "backhand". Is this what you mean?
Not exactly. I know it was a Russian and her ranking topped out in the 90s or so before she faded away. Saw her play once in a major, I believe, and hitting forehands on both sides was really, well, jolting. I'm 90% sure it was Koulikovskaya, but I'm too lazy to look it up.
