Interesting fact - so far this season, only three 2010 WTA champions have attempted to defend a red clay title. Each one of them has lost in the first round this year - Sevastova at Estoril, Rezai at Madrid, MJMS at Rome.

Not a good omen for Skeevy!

(in the other four events, the defending champion did not play the event - Pennetta/Marabella, Schiavone/Barcelona, Benesova/Fes and Henin/Stuttgart)
